Planning a trip to Hokkaido this summer? Want to hit all the classic sights and get the best photo spots in just one day? This guide is for you!
Biei in summer is packed with charm!
The first time I visited Hokkaido was during the summer of my third year in college. Up until then, I thought Hokkaido was all about snow, seafood, and winter festivals—so this trip was a total game-changer!

Hokkaido road
Lavender fields, the famous Blue Pond, Shikisai-no-Oka… there are so many breathtaking views you can only see in summer.
Must-Visit Spots in Biei for Summer
Blue Pond

Spacious parking and easy to access! It gets crowded during the day, so I recommend going early in the morning.
Shirahige Falls
Just 5 minutes by car from the Blue Pond—a bit of a hidden gem. There’s a small free parking area too.

Shikisai-no-Oka
Fields of flowers in full bloom during summer. Try the melon sold here—it’s fresh, juicy, and already cut up and chilled to perfection! So refreshing!
It’s so spacious that even with lots of tourists, it doesn’t feel crowded at all (lol).

Shinei Hill
Want that “classic Hokkaido” photo with hay rolls? This is the spot! It’s got parking and restrooms, and not too many people—perfect!

Patchwork Road
Christmas Tree

This scenic route is dotted with iconic trees like the “Christmas Tree,” “Ken & Mary Tree,” and “Seven Star Tree.” Super photogenic!・

If you’re visiting Hokkaido in July, don’t miss this!
Hokuryu Sunflower Village
If you’re planning your trip in July, you absolutely have to check out Hokuryu Sunflower Village.
It’s less than a 1.5-hour drive from Biei, so totally doable in a day!
What’s waiting for you?
A field of sunflowers? Nope—an entire mountain covered in them. It’s seriously impressive. 🌻🌻🌻
They even rent out sunflower-yellow bikes, so grab one and ride through this sea of yellow blooms.
It’s one of the most joyful summer experiences you can have in Hokkaido!

Farm Tomita
In Hokkaido, lavender season peaks from mid-July to early August. At Farm Tomita, you’ll find dreamy lavender fields and even lavender-flavored treats. If you’re visiting during this season, definitely add this to your must-see list!
